About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Submerge Welder to join our team in South Africa. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in submerged arc welding, strong technical skills, and attention to detail. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled welder to work on various projects, utilizing their expertise to deliver high-quality results.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate submerged arc welding equipment
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols
- Prepare materials by cleaning, cutting, and aligning components
- Perform welding on thick steel plates, pipes, or structural components
- Monitor welding process parameters (voltage, current, speed, flux)
- Ensure weld quality meets required standards and specifications
- Conduct visual inspections and assist with non-destructive testing (NDT) where required
- Maintain welding equipment and report faults or breakdowns
- Adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Complete job cards, production reports, and quality documentation
Requirements
- Grade 10 / Matric (preferred)
- Relevant welding certification (SAW qualification highly advantageous)
- Minimum 35 years experience in submerged arc welding
- Experience in heavy engineering, fabrication, or manufacturing environments
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Strong knowledge of submerged arc welding processes
- Good hand-eye coordination and technical skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Problem-solving and fault-finding ability
- Strong understanding of safety procedures
