Swellendam: Fitter & Turner

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Fitter & Turner to join our team in Swellendam, South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant maintenance and turning/machining experience, with excellent communication skills and a practical mindset.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain plant equipment
• Perform plant maintenance during shutdown periods
• Understand and interpret new drawings and manuals
• Install new machines and equipment as instructed
• Respond to emergency machine breakdowns throughout the plant
• Conduct regular inspections of plant equipment
• Provide feedback to Maintenance Engineer on breakdown root cause analyses
• Complete DMS Work orders and Work order book to record work completed
• Operate Leathe and Milling machine to manufacture parts and spares
• Participate in safety forums
• Follow-up on assigned activities through safety meetings/committees/representatives/management
• Report all safety incidents to relevant personnel
• Attend safety education and refresher programmes
• Comply with safety policies and procedures
• Distribute safety information as required
• Wear protective clothing and PPE where applicable

Requirements

• Qualified Trade Certificate in Fitting & Turning
• Minimum of 5 years of plant maintenance experience in food industry
• Minimum of 5 years of turning and machining experience
• Code 08/B driver’s license
• Forklift driver’s license (advantageous)
• Experience in a manufacturing environment (advantageous)
• Experience with Tool and Parts Management (advantageous)
• Computer literacy
• Experience with ARC, TIG, and MIG welding (advantageous)
