Job Description: Senior Accountant

Location: Three Rivers, Vereeniging

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will hold a completed SAICA qualification, a Diploma in Accounting, and bring at least five years of experience in accounting roles. This position requires strong expertise in financial reporting, tax compliance, and payroll management, with proficiency in Draftworx, VAT, PAYE, and SARS processes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:
   • Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with applicable standards.
   • Use Draftworx to prepare and review draft financial statements.
   • Provide accurate and timely reporting to management.
2. Tax Compliance:
   • Manage VAT and PAYE calculations, submissions, and compliance.
   • Handle SARS-related queries, audits, and reconciliations.
   • Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and ensure compliance.
3. Payroll Administration:
   • Oversee payroll processing, including calculations, deductions, and submissions.
   • Ensure compliance with statutory payroll requirements.
4. General Accounting Duties:
   • Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledgers.
   • Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, creditors, and debtors.
   • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
5. Regulatory and Compliance Activities:
   • Ensure adherence to all regulatory and statutory requirements.
   • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation.
6. Team Collaboration:
   • Work closely with junior accountants and provide mentorship and guidance.
   • Collaborate with other departments to support financial operations and decision-making.

Requirements:

• Completed SAICA qualification.
• Diploma in Accounting.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting roles.
• Proficiency in Draftworx, Pastel, VAT, PAYE, and SARS processes.
• Experience with payroll systems and processes.
• Strong knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
• Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Job Overview

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in overseeing the preparation of financial statements, managing month-end processes, leading junior staff, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, proactive individual with strong technical skills and a desire to grow within a reputable firm.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements and management reports.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Handle general ledger reconciliation and journal entries.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS and local tax regulations.
• Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
• Assist in audits, both internal and external.
• Liaise with clients to provide financial insights and resolve queries.
• Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Ensure timely submission of SARS returns (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax).

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Professional qualification (SAIPA/SAICA registered or in progress preferred).
• Minimum 35 years of accounting experience, preferably within a public practice.
• Experience with CaseWare, Pastel, Xero, or similar accounting software.
