The role is ideal for someone eager to build a foundation in data engineering, analytics, and automation within a professional environment.
You will be exposed to a variety of data-related activities, including reporting, data quality reviews, and light analytics, with mentorship and training throughout your time with us. You’ll work with data tools such as Excel/VBA, SQL, and Python, and gain hands-on experience in how data is used to support decision-making in the investment industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of datasets used in internal and client reporting.
- Learn and apply basic data transformation and automation using SQL, VBA, and Python.
- Support regular reporting cycles by helping to generate and review standard reports.
- Contribute to data checks and process documentation under supervision.
- Participate in projects aimed at improving reporting accuracy, speed, and usability.
Requirements:
- South African unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34.
- Must not have previously participated in the YES Programme.
- A completed Bachelor’s degree or diploma in one of the following fields:
- Data Science
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Statistics / Mathematics
- Economics / Business Analytics
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- No formal work experience required, but familiarity or academic exposure to the following would be advantageous:
- Microsoft Excel (including formulas/macros)
- SQL or any form of database interaction
- Python (especially for automation)
