• Develop and review designs for primary plant systems (HV equipment, busbars, disconnectors, earthing, etc.) for substations.
• Prepare layout drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Ensure compliance with IEC/SANS standards, utility specifications, and project requirements.
• Collaborate with civil, secondary, and protection engineers to integrate designs.
• Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and design validations.
• Support project managers with technical input during tendering and project execution.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and drafters.
• Liaise with clients, utilities, and suppliers to ensure design intent is achieved.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in substation primary plant design (HV/MV).
• Strong knowledge of HV equipment and substation layout design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD / MicroStation (or similar design tools).
• Familiarity with local utility standards and IEC/SANS regulations.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration skills.
• ECSA registration (Pr.Eng / Pr.Tech Eng) or eligibility is advantageous.
