About the Role

The University of Cape Town Lung Institute (Pty) Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Medical Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading research studies, managing clinical trials, and contributing to the development of new treatments for respiratory diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and follow up of study participants in accordance with Good Clinical Practice
  • Clinical evaluation of patients and patient safety management (reviewing adverse events and serious adverse events)
  • Phlebotomy and transport of blood specimens to the laboratory from the clinical site may be occasionally required.
  • Maintenance, cross-checking (QC) and entry of accurate data at clinical site
  • Liaise closely and maintain effective communication with the project coordinator and the Principal Investigator.
  • Keeping an up-to-date register of all studies detailing timelines for reporting to Funder, ethics renewals and recruitment status.
  • Submitting research studies for regulatory approvals
  • Management, supervision, and teaching of clinical research staff as required by the project

Requirements

  • MBChB degree with research experience
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • Good management skills
  • Computing skills appropriate for medical research
  • Verbal, written and reading fluency in English
  • Excellent Organisational and logistical skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a dynamic team
