Job Summary
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Surveyor to lead and manage our surveying department within our mining operations in Middelburg. This pivotal role involves overseeing all surveying activities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and providing strategic direction to the surveying team to support the company’s operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all surveying functions, ensuring alignment with operational goals and compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
- Develop and implement surveying strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of accurate mine plans, maps, and survey records.
- Collaborate with other departments, including geology, rock engineering, and ventilation, to integrate survey data into operational planning.
- Manage and mentor a team of surveyors, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Ensure the calibration and maintenance of surveying equipment to uphold data integrity.
- Monitor and report on surveying activities, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Stay abreast of technological advancements and industry best practices to maintain a competitive edge.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Mine Surveyor’s Certificate of Competency.
- National Diploma or BTech Degree in Mineral Surveying.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in various surveying disciplines within the mining industry.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a managerial or leadership role within a surveying department.
- A minimum of 2 years’ exposure to Mineral Resource Management.
- Proficiency in surveying software and tools.
- Strong understanding of mining operations, including geology, rock engineering, and ventilation systems.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
