Job Description
The Role
As the Facilities Engineering Manager, you will oversee the maintenance, compliance, and development of all hospital engineering systems, plant, and equipment. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians, ensure statutory and regulatory compliance, manage contractors and maintenance contracts, and contribute to capital project planning and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the hospital’s engineering and building services, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and medical gas systems.
- Ensure all systems comply with healthcare standards (HTMs, HBNs), legislation, and health & safety regulations.
- Manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the estate.
- Oversee and coordinate external contractors and specialist service providers.
- Prepare and manage engineering budgets and capital expenditure plans.
- Support environmental sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Provide engineering input into refurbishment, expansion, and capital projects.
- Lead emergency response for engineering-related incidents and infrastructure failures.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in engineering management within a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Experience managing a team of technical staff and contractors.
- Excellent understanding of complex building systems and technical operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
