About the Role

Well-established company based in East London are seeking a qualified and experienced applicant to join their dynamic team. We are looking for a Financial Controller who can participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes, as well as manage and monitor the company’s financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in developing and implementing financial strategies and policies to support the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Manage and monitor the company’s financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
  • Prepare and present financial statements, reports, and analysis to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping activities, including accounts payable and receivable and general ledger.
  • Identify areas for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Lead and mentor a team of financial professionals, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure financial goals are aligned with overall business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • CA(SA) or other relevant professional certification is preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in finance with 5 years in the construction industry

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Controller to join our team in East London. As a pivotal member of our financial operations, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance, driving efficiency, and providing valuable financial insights across our group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with bookkeepers of multiple external entities (approx. 6 to start).
  • Assist with full-spectrum accounting, VAT, and income tax queries.
  • Support the preparation of monthly Management Accounts.
  • Prepare annual audit files for submission to auditors.
  • Contribute to budgeting processes for external clients.
  • Train and upskill bookkeepers as needed.
  • Review Management Accounts and financial reports.
  • Promote our service offering to potential clients, including software demonstrations and presentations.
  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and industry events.
  • Meet with potential clients to assess needs and present tailored solutions.
  • Prepare service proposals, quotations, and contracts, ensuring compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on service delivery and client onboarding.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor offerings.
  • Maintain accurate sales and client records, tracking KPIs.
  • Act as a point of contact for new clients, ensuring smooth onboarding and ongoing satisfaction.

Requirements

  • BCom Accounting degree or equivalent finance qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a mid to senior finance role.
  • Proven experience in Management Accounts preparation and reporting.
  • Strong background in audit preparation and auditor liaison.
  • Solid knowledge of IFRS and relevant accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft, Sage Accpac, Xero, Spotlight, or similar accounting systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills (including complex formulae).
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both clients and staff.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) at a first-language level.
