About the Role
We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Draughtsperson to join our Mechanical Engineering Department. As a young and motivated individual with a passion for mechanical design, you will be part of a team that values precision, learning, and innovation. You will assist senior draughtsmen and engineers in developing accurate 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and layouts for a variety of mechanical equipment and fabricated components.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in creating and updating detailed 3D models and technical drawings for mechanical equipment and fabricated components.
- Support the preparation of machining, assembly, and fabrication drawings for industrial fans, vessels, and related parts.
- Help generate material take-off lists (MTOs) and ensure bill of materials accuracy.
- Work with Inventor and AutoCAD to develop and revise engineering designs.
- Apply guidance from senior engineers and draughtsmen to refine design concepts and ensure technical accuracy.
- Maintain organised drawing libraries and revision records in line with company standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure correct design integration.
- Adhere to internal and industry drawing and documentation standards.
Requirements
- N4–N6 or Diploma in Mechanical Draughting (or equivalent).
- 0 – 2 years’ experience in a draughting role within a manufacturing or fabrication environment (graduates with strong technical aptitude may be considered).
- Proficiency in Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and fabrication methods.
- Exposure to or familiarity with industry design codes (ASME, SANS, EN) advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and willingness to learn.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work under supervision and meet deadlines.
Qualifications
- N4–N6 in Mechanical Draughting or equivalent qualification.
