Mbombela: Senior Automation Engineer

This engineering and automation company specializes in industrial automation, custom fabrication, and turnkey solutions for manufacturing and agricultural sectors. What You’ll Do: Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial automation systems using PLC, SCADA, HMI, drives, sensors, instrumentation, and networking technologies. Draft and implement PLC logic (Phoenix Contact, Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, Omron, ABB, etc.). Configure SCADA/HMI interfaces and dashboards. Perform onsite commissioning, FAT, SAT, and system integration. Troubleshoot hardware and communication issues (I/O faults, sensors, VFDs, encoders, and comms buses). Interpret electrical diagrams, P&IDs, and loop drawings. Implement industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and MQTT). Ensure compliance with safety standards and risk assessments. Prepare documentation (functional specs, manuals, IO lists, and as-builts). Education & Experience: 5 years hands-on automation engineering experience. Strong proficiency with at least one major PLC/SCADA platform. Ability to lead projects, mentor juniors, and interface with clients. Skilled in designing complete automation systems end-to-end (electrical, commissioning & integration).
