An established and progressive organisation is looking for a Financial Accountant to join its finance team in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. Reporting into senior finance leadership, you’ll oversee a small finance team while taking ownership of financial reporting, compliance, cash flow forecasting, and month-end processes. Beyond the day-to-day accounting function, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to process improvement initiatives, strengthen governance, and influence business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Prepare accounts up to Trial Balance
• Produce monthly management accounts and income statements
• Perform balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations
• Manage month-end and year-end reporting processes
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information

Financial Control & Compliance

• Maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Prepare VAT and statutory submissions
• Maintain monthly journals and internal control documentation
• Support external audit processes and ensure compliance with financial policies and governance standards

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow

• Prepare and monitor weekly cash flow forecasts
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
• Provide financial insights to support operational and strategic decision-making
• Oversee the Accounts Payable function and support a team of three finance staff

Job Experience and Skills Required:

Qualifications:

• BCom Accounting Degree
• SAIPA Registration or completed SAICA/SAIPA Articles
• Newly Qualified Chartered Accountants are encouraged to apply

Experience:

• 3+ years’ accounting experience
• Strong financial accounting and technical accounting experience
• Audit experience with a strong focus on internal controls and compliance highly advantageous
• Manufacturing and pharmaceutical industry exposure advantageous

Skills & Competencies:

• Syspro experience essential
• Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong technical accounting knowledge
• Excellent reconciliation and month-end reporting experience
• Strong understanding of internal controls, governance, and compliance
• Proven leadership ability with experience managing or mentoring a small team
• Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail
• Proactive, collaborative, and able to work independently while meeting deadlines
