About the Role
Safari JOBS Ltd is seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to join the pre-opening team of a renowned game lodge in Limpopo, scheduled to open in late 2026. The successful candidate will support pre-opening operations and become a key member of a high-performing operations team within one of South Africa’s most scenic and well-established private game areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Welding, basic electrical work, bush clearing, road grading, general building, staff training, and more
- Mentoring and upskilling junior and mid-level maintenance staff on safe use of machinery, safety protocols, and maintaining high standards aligned with an upmarket safari lodge environment
- Maintaining and repairing lodge infrastructure, including guest areas, staff accommodation, utility systems (water, gas, sewage, solar, etc.)
- Conducting preventative maintenance and responding to repair needs promptly
- Assisting with bush clearing, road grading, firebreaks, and other seasonal outdoor tasks
- Ensuring tools, vehicles, and workshop areas are kept in excellent condition and safety compliant
- Communicating clearly and respectfully with team members, management, and other departments
Requirements
- Basic plumbing skills
- Basic carpentry skills
- Painting and minor construction skills
- Light electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to coordinate a team and maintain workflow when delegated
- Experience in high-end lodge environments where presentation, discretion, and efficiency are essential
- High level of practical problem-solving and ability to work independently
Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., National Diploma or Certificate in Maintenance)
- 4×4 vehicle ownership or willingness to acquire a suitable vehicle
- Code 8 or higher driver’s licence
- Existing experience in an upmarket lodge/remote maintenance environment
- Familiarity with solar or off-grid systems
Salary & Benefits
- Negotiable minimum gross salary expectation upon application
- Split of pooled monthly gratuities once lodge becomes operational
- Accommodation: Own private room and bathroom; Uniform; Utilities including water, electricity, and Wi-Fi
- 7 consecutive days off per month, plus 15 leave days per annum
Additional Requirements
- Valid passport
- Existing work permit for RSA
- Ability to access Zoom for the initial interview
- Willingness to potentially complete a character and personality assessment during the interview stage
- Willingness to potentially undergo a polygraph examination prior to final appointment
