About the Role
A leading FMCG manufacturing company is seeking a hands-on Production Team Leader with strong technical expertise in moulding and proven team management experience. This role is suited to a qualified artisan who has progressed into a leadership role within a high-speed production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise day-to-day production team activities
- Drive and maintain production efficiencies
- Ensure all products meet required quality and compliance standards
- Oversee accurate completion of production documentation and tally sheets
- Monitor and control raw material usage and wastage
- Track machine and mould performance, ensuring optimal output
- Manage and coordinate all on-hold / non-conforming products
- Ensure correct packing, labelling, and documentation at all machines
- Liaise closely with Quality to ensure adherence to product standards
- Allocate and manage staff across machines in line with production plans
- Provide hands-on technical support on machines when required
- Enforce adherence to all health & safety standards
- Maintain housekeeping standards
Technical & Operational Duties
- Assist with mould changes and machine setups
- Support maintenance activities and ensure machine uptime
- Drive process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist with new product trials and recipe development
- Ensure moulds are serviced in line with annual schedules
- Manage mould consumables and conduct weekly stock checks
- Maintain and control critical machine spares
- Ensure preventative maintenance and machine checks are completed
- Participate in weekly production meetings
Minimum Requirements
- Matric and Trade Tested Fitter & Turner (preferred) or relevant mechanical trade (essential)
- Minimum 2 years experience as a Shift Setter in manufacturing
- Proven experience managing or directly supervising a production team
- Strong technical and mechanical knowledge
- Exposure to blow moulding / plastics manufacturing (advantageous)
- Experience in a high-speed FMCG production environment
- Strong communication skills across all levels
