Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Transaction Processing & Cash Handling:
- Accurately process all customer transactions (cash, debit/credit cards, vouchers, EFTs, etc.)
- Ensure correct scanning of items and pricing in line with store systems
- Issue receipts, refunds, and exchanges in accordance with company policies
- Maintain an accurate cash float and ensure daily cash-ups are completed without discrepancies
- Report any variances, suspicious transactions, or discrepancies immediately to management
Customer Service Excellence:
- Provide a friendly, professional, and efficient service at all times
- Assist customers with queries, complaints, and product-related questions
- Handle customer concerns calmly and escalate where necessary
- Build positive relationships with customers to encourage repeat business
Point-of-Sale & Administrative Duties:
- Operate POS systems efficiently and troubleshoot minor issues when necessary
- Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately for reporting purposes
- Maintain proper documentation of daily transactions and cash-ups
- Adhere strictly to company policies and procedures regarding financial controls
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all financial transactions
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards within the store
- Prevent loss and report any suspicious behaviour or shrinkage risks.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric (essential)
- Minimum of 4–5 years’ proven experience as a cashier within a retail environment
- Solid experience working with Point of Sale (POS) systems
- Strong numerical and cash-handling skills with a high level of accuracy
- Computer literacy (MS Office and retail systems)
- Good verbal communication skills
- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.
