About the Role
Ivanhoe Mines is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team in Johannesburg, South Africa. As a key member of our logistics management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire logistics process for transporting mined materials, ensuring timely and cost-effective movement of goods. You will work closely with our Sales and Outbound Logistics teams to optimize transportation networks, minimize costs, and improve transit times.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the entire logistics process for transporting mined materials, including route planning, scheduling, and coordination in conjunction with planned production levels.
- Collaborate with Service Providers and Buyers to address operational challenges and provide solutions.
- Optimize transportation networks to minimize costs and improve transit times.
- Monitor logistics KPIs, including on-time delivery, load optimization, and transportation costs.
- Identify potential risks in the transportation process and develop contingency plans to mitigate delays or disruptions.
- Manage schedules, stock position, and stock levels.
- Communicate forecasts and monthly statistics.
- Serve as the main point of contact between the logistics team and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Relevant Diploma/Degree in Business Management; Operations Management; Supply Chain Management; or Industrial Engineering.
- Understanding of economic, commercial, technical, and political issues affecting the shipping market.
- Knowledge of freight market trends, technical requirements, and operational knowledge.
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of international shipping regulations, Inco terms, and compliance.
- Proven experience in negotiations, preferably in a business or procurement setting.
