Job Description
To support the Design Office by assisting in the preparation of accurate 2D and 3D drawings, updating existing drawings, and maintaining drawing control systems. The Junior Draughtsman will work under the guidance of the Engineering Manager and Design Draughtsman to develop technical skills while contributing to the successful execution of mechanical design projects in the water and wastewater treatment sector.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design & Draughting Support
- Assist in the preparation of 2D drawings, 3D models, fabrication drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Modify and update existing drawings based on redlines and engineering instructions.
- Assist with the preparation of General Arrangement (GA) drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Ensure drawings are prepared in accordance with company standards and templates.
- Maintain drawing accuracy and completeness before submission for review.
2. Drawing Administration & Document Control
- Ensure all drawings are correctly filed and managed within the SolidWorks PDM system.
- Maintain revision control in line with companies drawing procedures.
- Update drawings to “as-built” status following fabrication or site changes.
- Assist in checking drawing numbers, revisions, and documentation prior to issue.
- Ensure adherence to department Standard Operating Procedures and best practices.
3. Collaboration & Technical Support
- Work closely with the Design Draughtsman, Engineering Manager, and engineering team to ensure alignment on project requirements.
- Liaise with production and procurement teams to clarify drawing details where required.
- Assist in resolving minor design queries during fabrication under supervision.
- Participate in internal design review discussions for learning and development.
4. Learning & Development
- Develop competency in SolidWorks 3D modelling and detailing.
- Build knowledge of water and wastewater treatment equipment and mechanical systems.
- Support product improvement initiatives by contributing ideas and observations.
- Continuously improve technical and professional skills through on-the-job learning
5. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all drawings comply with companies design standards and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
- Follow established drawing control and revision procedures.
- Maintain accuracy, attention to detail, and quality in all outputs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Design Office.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- National Diploma in Mechanical Draughting / any tertiary qualification in draughting.
- 1 – 3 years’ experience in a mechanical draughting environment (water/process industry advantageous but not essential).
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks (3D modelling and drafting).
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and fabrication processes.
- Good communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong willingness to learn.
- Ability to work under supervision and manage deadlines.
