About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Cooling Specialist/Packhouse Maintenance Technician to join our team at Farm Manager SA. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of our refrigeration systems, as well as providing support to our packhouse operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain all cold storage, pre-cooling, and refrigeration systems to ensure optimal temperature performance.
- Conduct regular inspections, calibrations, and servicing of compressors, condensers, evaporators, and electrical control panels.
- Diagnose and repair faults in refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Record temperature data, maintenance logs, and compliance reports for audits and traceability.
- Manage and plan preventative maintenance schedules for all packhouse machinery and cooling systems.
- Oversee and coordinate external service providers for specialized refrigeration or electrical work.
- Support packhouse operations during cooling, loading, and storage to ensure product quality is maintained.
- Maintain safety standards and comply with SIZA, Global G.A.P., and PPECB requirements related to temperature-controlled handling.
- Assist with general maintenance, including lighting, motors, conveyors, and basic plumbing where necessary.
- Train and supervise junior maintenance staff when required.
- Report recurring technical issues and propose system improvements.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Relevant technical qualification (e.g., Refrigeration Technician, Electrical Trade Test, or equivalent)
- 3–5 years of experience in refrigeration, cooling systems, or packhouse maintenance
- Experience with agricultural packhouse environments preferred
- Valid driver’s license (Code 8 or higher)
- Knowledge of SANS electrical standards and occupational safety protocols advantageous
