About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Farm Manager to oversee the production of exotic fruits, specifically Kiwi, at our farm in Overberg. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the farm, ensuring that all activities are carried out in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the production plan for the Kiwi farm
- Scheduling and implementation of irrigation according to seasonal needs of the orchards
- Implementation of the fertilizer programme as required and prescribed
- Management of the labour force in accordance with requirements by law and company standards
- Identification and recruitment of suitable seasonal/contract labour
- Implementation of pest control measures, including spray programmes
- Supervision and training of production staff to improve skill sets
- Participation in regular meetings and technical discussions
- Monitoring and evaluation of production team performance to improve efficiency and productivity
- Maintenance of accurate records, including crop yields, labour costs, and crop inventory
Requirements
- Proficient in English
- Diploma/Degree in Agriculture
- Background in fruit farming with a minimum of 4 years managing in production operations
- Experience supervising and training production teams
- Strong knowledge of fruit farming techniques, equipment, and regulations
- Ability to manage budgets and operations
- Skilled in Excel, Word, Power Point
- Knowledge of Irrigation Systems, Netafim Fertigation Programmes, Irrigator Control Systems
- Good understanding of required export quality standards
