About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Automotive Junior HV Technician to join our team in Cape Town City Centre. As an Electric Vehicle (EV) technician, you will be responsible for providing technical support, diagnosing, and repairing EVs and Hybrid Vehicles. You will also assist with the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of EV charging equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and service Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hybrid Vehicles
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections in accordance with manufacturer standards and specifications
- Conduct High Voltage battery inspections, testing, fault finding, and basic repairs
- Carry out vehicle health checks and diagnostic scans using manufacturer-approved diagnostic equipment
- Identify, troubleshoot, and report electrical, electronic, and mechanical faults
- Assist with software updates, calibrations, programming, and system configuration where required
- Complete all repairs accurately, efficiently, and within specified timelines
- Follow all High Voltage safety procedures and industry best practices
- Maintain compliance with workshop and manufacturer safety standards
Requirements
- Qualified Motor Vehicle Technician
- Red Seal EV and High Voltage Certification
- Minimum 13 years’ automotive workshop experience in a dealership environment
- Practical experience working with Electric Vehicles (EVs) and/or Hybrid Vehicles
- Proven High Voltage technical experience essential
- Strong understanding of vehicle electrical and electronic systems
- Experience using diagnostic equipment and interpreting technical information
- Valid driver’s licence
- Computer literate
Qualifications
- Knowledge of battery management systems, charging systems, and electric drivetrains (advantageous)
- Exposure to AC and/or DC charger installation and commissioning (advantageous)
- Understanding of EV charging standards, protocols, and safety requirements (advantageous)
- Experience with manufacturer diagnostic systems and software updates (advantageous)
- Knowledge of alternative fuel vehicle technologies (advantageous)
