About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Draughtsman to join our team in Cape Town City Centre, working on water and wastewater treatment projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical engineering expertise, excellent design skills, and experience with AutoCAD and 3D modelling software.
Key Responsibilities
- Design layouts for water and wastewater treatment plants
- Develop piping isometrics, including P&IDs
- Assist with equipment selection and contribute to mechanical equipment R&D
- Create 3D models of structural steel, piping systems, and sheet metal components
- Prepare accurate manufacturing, fabrication, and installation drawings
- Design sheet metal components and produce fabrication-ready documentation
- Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BoMs)
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of water and wastewater treatment projects
- Support project scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning in collaboration with project leads
- Monitor and report on project progress, proactively identifying risks or delays
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, production teams, and site personnel
- Ensure all drawings and documentation comply with project requirements, quality standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain detailed records of project milestones, design changes, and revisions
- Participate in site meetings and inspections to ensure alignment with design intent
Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering degree or diploma
- 35 years relevant draughting experience (Water and wastewater experience is highly advantageous)
- Strong experience in mechanical design and assemblies
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or BricsCAD and 3D modelling software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Working knowledge of pipe routing, sheet metal design, and manufacturing drawings
