Job Summary

Key Responsibilities: * Maintain and manage, in conjunction with networking team, networking switches and routers conforming to requirements from Networking Security Team * Develop, manage and maintain documentation of the system architecture. * Develop and maintain database of existing networking equipment ô²ôlocation, serial number, model, configuration management. * Manage, in conjunction with networking team, maintenance of networking kit, spares provisioning, stores replacement, capacity planning, optics, line cards etc. * Maintain and manage, in conjunction with networking team, servers both physical and virtual (Proxmox based on KVM) running Linux and Microsoft Windows Server Edition. * Maintain and manage, in conjunction with networking team, server room level networking and availability. * Respond, in conjunction with the networking team, to break-fix issues on networking equipment. Key Requirements: Qualification: * National Diploma Engineering/Information Technology 5 years; OR * B.Eng / B.Sc Hons (Comp Sci/Engineering or related field) with 3 years Experience: * Working as a technical resource on network infrastructure * Experience in network operations and service support * Experience working with helpdesk as a support technician * Experience monitoring and responding proactively to network and IT issues * Experience monitoring, implementing and updating network security services * Experience working with virtual networks, namespace management * Experience interpreting and updating network designs Knowledge: * Documenting network architecture at various OSI levels. * Operating systems experience: Windows, Linux (Debian / Ubuntu), OS X * Networking in virtual environments in particular KVM via Proxmox Enterprise Virtualisation as well as containerised environments such as Docker * Networking security best practice; Firewall configuration and management. * Maintenance and operation life cycle of Networking Equipment. * Identity and Access Management, Single Sign-on and Federated Identity (IdP and SP) * ITIL frameworks and ICT operations Additional Notes: Skills/ Ability/ Competencies * Good working knowledge of TCP/IP, Routing, DNS, DHCP, OSI Stack, VPN. * Networking switch and router configuration ô²ôCisco, HPE, Mellanox, Arista * Experience in networking monitoring tools and support packages. * Good understanding of Linux operating system, Opensource software and networking tools. * Well-developed knowledge of systems/services for software/hardware development, how this relates to IT networking, security, storage and computing. Strategic thinking and influence * Initiative and continually brings fresh ideas to the table

Job Summary

As the Senior Network Administrator, you will work closely with the networking team and security specialists to manage network equipment, support virtual and physical servers, and contribute to network design, planning, and capacity forecasting. Your efforts will ensure the reliability and security of the organisations critical network infrastructure. Key Responsibilities (amongst others): Maintain and manage networking switches and routers in coordination with the networking and security teams Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of system architecture and networking equipment inventories Manage maintenance, spares provisioning, capacity planning, and replacement of networking hardware Oversee the management of physical and virtual servers running Linux and Microsoft Windows Server environments Ensure network availability and manage server room networking infrastructure. Respond promptly to break-fix issues related to network equipment in collaboration with the networking team Support ongoing network improvements and assist with forecasting future network requirements Minimum Requirements Qualification(s) required: National Diploma in Engineering or Information Technology with 5 years relevant experience; OR B.Eng or B.Sc Hons (Computer Science, Engineering, or related field) with 3 years relevant experience Experience required: Proven experience as a technical resource in network infrastructure management and support Hands-on experience with network operations, service support, and helpdesk collaboration Experience proactively monitoring and resolving network and IT issues Knowledge and practice of network security services implementation and maintenance Experience with virtual networks and namespace management Ability to interpret and update network design documentation Knowledge and Skills: Documenting network architecture across OSI layers Operating systems: Windows, Linux (Debian/Ubuntu), and OS X Networking in virtualised environments, especially KVM via Proxmox, and containerised environments like Docker Networking security best practices, including firewall configuration and management Lifecycle maintenance and operation of networking equipment Identity and Access Management, Single Sign-On, and Federated Identity protocols (IdP and SP) Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and ICT operations Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, DNS, DHCP, OSI stack, VPNs Configuration experience with networking switches and routers such as Cisco, HPE, Mellanox, and Arista Use of networking monitoring tools and support packages Solid grasp of Linux operating systems, open-source software, and networking tools Strategic thinking and influencing skills in IT networking and security contexts This role presents a unique opportunity to play a vital part in sustaining and enhancing the network infrastructure of a nationally important scientific research organisation.
