Our client, a well-known organisation in the publishing industry, is seeking to employ an experienced Finance Director to join their leadership team, based in Cape Town, South Africa.
The successful candidate will provide financial leadership across all African entities, ensuring effective financial and commercial management, strong financial control, and strategic support to the regional leadership team.
Please note this role is marked an EE appointment.

- Professional Finance qualification.
- Significant experience in senior finance roles in a multi-national organization.
- Initiative and ability to successfully implement new ideas, with drive to push through.
- Trusted advisor who is commercially astute and has a proven track record of driving business development and change initiatives.
- Demonstrates gravitas and ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to management teams.
- A strong communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within an organisation.
- Experience and knowledge of the publishing industry.
Job Description / Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for delivering the financial results of Southern Africa and East Africa that combine to form the Africa business.
- Work as a leading member of the Africa SMT to provide insight into business performance and to recommend actions to improve results and achieve business goals.
- Provide high quality and proactive finance leadership, supporting the Africa Managing Director (MD) and their SMT in the delivery of the commercial agenda for the business.
- Work as part of the SMT to devise and deliver strategy, including deciding upon the appropriate allocation of resources and targeted investment.
- Hold business to account for major business cases, ensure appropriate governance and tracking mechanisms in place to ensure return on investment.
- Responsible for finance operations and reporting activity across Africa.
- Responsible for the delivery of the annual planning cycle, including five-year plan and budget.
- Responsible for the financial considerations required in investment decision making and ensuring major commercial decisions taken within the business are made with sound commercial judgement, clear assumptions, robust analysis and appropriate governance.
- Ensure the statutory control environment is maintained, that the internal control framework is adhered to, and internal/external audits are effectively supported.
- Liaise with Group Tax to ensure all intercompany arrangements and filings are timely, accurate and adhere to local laws.
- Responsible for the management of cashflow for the Africa entities in partnership with Group Treasury.
- As a member of the Finance Leadership Team (FLT), work collaboratively to develop the divisional finance organization.
