Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
Experience: 5 to 7 years
Qualification: BSc or BTech in Civil Engineering or higher degree from an accredited university/college
Registration: Candidate Engineer with ECSA
We are seeking a skilled Structural Engineer with 5 to 7 years of experience to join our multidisciplinary projects team. Reporting to the Technical Director, you will provide professional engineering services, assist in project delivery, and contribute to the successful execution of complex structural engineering projects.
Responsibilities:
- Complete technical duties including design, costing, and specifications as directed
- Draft high-quality technical reports and present technical work internally and externally
- Provide innovative technical solutions and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks within budget
- Inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specifications
- Communicate effectively with consultants on technical matters
- Draft and manage works authorisations and variation orders
- Review contractor claims and draft recommendations
- Provide technical support across departments
- Allocate work and ensure effective utilization of team members
- Lead small teams of technicians/draughtsmen on projects
- Support verification of subconsultants invoices
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
- Maintain quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle
- Assist in drafting responses to straightforward bids
- Manage multiple projects/contracts concurrently
- Develop understanding of departmental technologies and markets
- Train technicians/draughtsmen in relevant software
- Support regional initiatives and maintain strong client relationships
- Engage in continuous professional development and pursue professional registration
Requirements:
- BSc or BTech in Civil Engineering or higher qualification
- Registered as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA
- 5 to 7 years professional experience in structural engineering
- Proficient in structural draughting/modelling software including AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla Structures
- Competent in design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, and timber
- Knowledge of elemental and finite element design software (e.g. Prokon, Etabs, Frame, Safe, Tekla Structure Designer) is advantageous
- Experience in commercial, industrial, or residential sector projects is a plus
- Prior experience in construction supervision and/or structural due diligence inspections
