Job Description
A leading international import/export company servicing the mining and oil & gas sectors across Africa is looking for an experienced Technical Buyer with strong experience in mining and/or oil and gas procurement to join their team in Table View, Cape Town. This is a demanding, high-pressure role suited to a highly assertive and commercially strong buyer who is confident negotiating with suppliers locally and internationally, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and capable of hitting the ground running. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, analytical, initiative-driven, and comfortable operating within a small, performance-focused team where accountability is high and poor performance is immediately felt.
Responsibilities:

Negotiate and finalize pricing, terms, rebates, and supply agreements with local and international suppliers

Source new suppliers globally and evaluate supplier performance

Procure equipment, materials, and services in line with operational and production requirements
-
Plan, monitor, and schedule material movement throughout the procurement cycle

Expedite orders and proactively resolve delivery or shipment issues
-
Manage and track import and export shipments, including coordination with freight forwarders
-
Verify import/export documentation, duty amounts, and forwarder invoices for accuracy
-
Ensure correct costing of imports and exports, including shipping rates and related charges
-
Maintain accurate records of supplier and client communications
-
Verify BOMs, part numbers, and MRP data accuracy
-
Liaise extensively with clients and manage commercial relationships

Bid on tenders where required

Work closely with internal teams including warehouse operations

Perform ad hoc procurement-related duties as required

Travel locally and internationally when necessary
Requirements:
-
BCom / BTech in Supply Chain Management or relevant tertiary qualification (minimum 3-year diploma)

Minimum 3 years purchasing experience, preferably within mining, oil & gas, or import/export environments

Proven experience sourcing commodities for mining and/or oil & gas companies

Strong negotiation skills and ability to operate in a high-pressure, demanding environment

Experience with import/export processes, freight forwarders, and international shipments

Strong analytical and numerical ability

High attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to work independently and take initiative

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Strong organisational and problem-solving skills

Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel

Experience using AI tools advantageous

Ability to handle responsibility within a small, high-impact team
