About the Role

As an Operations Manager in Durban, you will be responsible for managing and controlling our operations to achieve our budgeted financial targets. Your primary focus will be on maintaining client support, maximizing productivity, and ensuring that all departments are adequately staffed and structured at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage operational staff, consider succession planning and training as per company policy and budget.
  • Ensure no business is lost due to poor service levels or inaccurate operational performances.
  • Keep clients apprised of shipment status and provide prompt, efficient, and courteous attention to service delivery.
  • Resolve client complaints and queries quickly and efficiently, being personally involved where necessary.
  • Conduct regular client visits and engagement to ensure service excellence and client retention.
  • Service existing clients at all levels.
  • Review transporters/third-party suppliers and ensure only reliable and reputable services are used.
  • Assist operational staff with their duties and provide guidance and technical support where required.
  • Review operational systems and procedures in terms of ISO, recommend changes as appropriate to improve performance.
  • Participate in audits and resolve non-conformances.
  • Assist with the acquisition of new business.
  • Ensure all business is conducted within national and international legal requirements and shipping/airline policies.
  • Monitor operational staff adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act conditions.
  • Recommend employment/releases, conduct interviews, and recommend salary increases/bonuses on due date.
  • Attend company/industry meetings, seminars, and training events as required.
  • Prepare business reports and statistics as needed.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are adhered to regarding disciplinary action, employment contracts, leave entitlements, work attendance, etc.
  • Achieve the branch’s financial budget through managing costs and maximizing productivity.
  • Assist with preparation of annual branch budget.
  • Monitor and control customs refunds, provisional payments, and customs issues.
  • Review rates and tariffs on an ongoing basis, recommending adjustments where necessary and negotiating rate increases directly with clients.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF qualification.
  • MS Excel proficiency.
  • Strong Leadership skills.
  • Strong Multimodal experience.
  • Excellent administration skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong planning and organising abilities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
