About the Role
The SHE Officer role at Staff Solutions requires a dedicated and experienced professional to oversee health, safety, environment, and social responsibility initiatives across all aspects of our operations in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local and international standards, promoting a strong safety culture, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments across all areas of operation.
- Lead investigations for incidents, near misses, and accidents to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Plan and conduct internal health and safety audits to ensure compliance with local and international standards.
- Monitor the Engineering department to ensure compliance testing is carried out (e.g. lifting equipment and pressure vessels).
- Evaluate and implement Occupational Hygiene survey findings.
- Evaluate and implement Legal audit findings.
- Ensure SHEMS certification & legal compliance, engaging with the DOL as necessary.
- Develop, implement, and test emergency response procedures, including fire drills and evacuation plans.
- Coordinate focus boards with relevant CFT for close out of incidents.
- Oversee waste management practices, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
- Evaluate the company’s environmental impact and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
- Lead sustainability efforts, promoting eco-friendly practices and reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
- Ensure Effluent Discharge permits are in place and monitoring of effluent discharged in terms of permits is being maintained.
- Apply for flammable stores permits as necessary.
Requirements
- Health and Safety Degree or equivalent.
- 5 – 10 years experience in a Health and SHE Officer role.
- Experience in 14001 and 45001 is essential.
- Experience in the manufacturing sector (advantageous).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
