About the Role

As a General Manager: Food & Hospitality Services, you will be responsible for managing and leading our business to maximize profitability, maintaining operational standards, ensuring excellent customer service, and compliance with relevant Acts. You will lead a dynamic sales team, build relationships with suppliers, and report directly to the Directors/EXCO. This role involves managing 5 direct reports: Sales Reps, Warehouse Manager, and Retail & Admin Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with all relevant management reporting processes
  • Manage all the financial procedures of the business
  • Maintain correct and competitive pricing and ensure that an acceptable Gross Profit percentage is managed & achieved
  • Ensure all outstanding Debtors / Accounts are recovered timeously & review and authorize all transactions reflected on the bank statements plus review and authorize creditor payments
  • Interpret management reports, review monthly management accounts, comment on variances & take relevant action
  • Consistently monitor warehousing, product, labour costs and pricing, ensuring departmental projections and budgets are adhered to
  • Ensure all operational standards are implemented and maintained at the business as required by the Company
  • Comply with all relevant checklists & evaluations as set out by the Company and ensure audit compliance pertaining to the business in which the business operates
  • Interface with customers & clients, resolve queries and complaints and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Ensure stock takes take place on a daily, weekly, monthly & quarterly basis and ensure all company procedures are followed and shrinkage controlled.
  • Ensure Warehouse Manager oversees the safe receipt, storage, retrieval and timely and accurate dispatch of goods
  • Ensure productivity targets are met and computerized administration and automated storage and retrieval systems are maintained
  • Ensure maintenance procedures are efficiently carried out and adherence to the required maintenance schedules and warehouse standards
  • Oversee that all staffs time and attendance is monitored and controlled
  • Manage staffs performance standards and adhere to company timeframes for performance management
  • Ensure staff developed, training needs identified and relevant training implemented in liaison with the Group HR Manager
  • Interview and hire applicants when vacancies arise
  • Ensure all staff adhere to companys disciplinary code and be involved in disciplinary process as required
  • Ensure all related salary & wage information is being submitted to relevant payroll administrators by the due dates
  • Manage and lead dynamic sales team and ensure budgets are achieved and align this to the overall sales strategy of the business
  • Ensure appointed Health & Safety Officer complies with all safety standards and regulations
  • Ensure all staff are knowledgeable of the warehouses emergency procedures, where all emergency shut-offs and exits are located and assist customers when necessary in case of an emergency
  • Ensure management facilitate all emergency response training and health and safety training for all relevant staff
  • Ensure that the business is a safe, clean and healthy environment at all times
  • Carry out any duty or requirement imposed on the business by the Occupational, Health & Safety (OHS) Act
  • Report any unsafe or unhealthy situations to Executives
  • Ensure that the requirements of the OHS Act are complied with by all team members

Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Relevant post-matric qualification (advantageous)
  • 5+ years experience in food service / warehouse & logistics / retail environment
  • 5+ years experience in a management role
  • Strong computer skills, specifically MS Excel
  • Packaging experience (advantageous)
