About the Role
The successful SHE Officer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (SHE) system in our manufacturing and engineering facility in East London. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a good understanding of the Health and Safety Act, and experience working in a similar role.
Key Responsibilities
- Implementing and maintaining SHE systems
- SHE related administrative duties
- Coordinating relevant contractors and staff
- Compiling procedures and relevant SHE documentation
- Maintaining the document control register for all types of procedures, inspection forms, risk assessments, etc.
- Ensuring regular inspections on CCTV System, gates, locks, fences, as well as any other security infrastructure
- Inspecting workplaces to identify accidents, causes of ill-health, and complaints, and ensuring compliance
- Initiating ways to improve overall health and safety in the workplace
- Developing safety, health & environmental management schedules and strategies
- Keeping up to date with legislative and technical knowledge to ensure adherence to OHSA standards
- Compiling monthly reports on all security issues including cost
- Updating notice boards
- Ensuring proper access control is conducted daily
- Maintaining stringent record keeping of all persons and property entering or leaving the premises
- Implementing disciplinary action in case of misconduct pertaining to Health & Safety
- Ordering first aid stock and replenishing the First Aid boxes
- Conducting SHE audits, reporting on findings, and logging all non-compliances
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric with NQF Level 4-6 Health and Safety qualification
- 3 years experience in a health and safety role in the manufacturing and engineering sector
- MS Office Literate
- Excellent communication skills
- Good understanding of the Health and Safety Act
- Valid driver’s license
Qualifications
- Formal education/certifications (if applicable)
