Duties and Responsibilities:
PERFORMANCE STATEMENT
- To manage the overall day to day operations of the Industrial Relations department of the client and co-ordinate all industrial relations activities.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
A. ADVISING ON INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS ISSUES AND MANAGING BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL IR PROCESSES
PROVIDE ONGOING GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT
- Ensure all managers are equipped to deal with IR issues
- Assist with compliance to IR legislation
- Provide day to day advice in terms of risk and compliance
- Prepare internal and external disciplinary matters
- Provide guidance and support to all performance management/incapacity processes
- Ensure consistency in terms of sanctions given
- Conduct continuing study of industrial relations practices to keep abreast of new developments
DOCUMENT AND TRACK INTERNAL INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
- Monthly report of all IR issues
- Record all disciplinary actions that occur
- Ensure the correct administration for the sanction is completed (e.g. payments, blacklisting etc.)
REPRESENT THE COMPANY AT EXTERNAL INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS DISPUTES
- Ensure that all referrals are tracked and that company attends all conciliations/arbitrations
- Discuss pending cases with IR Practitioner to determine whether external representation is required, and that the appropriate level of services are retained
- Attend to all external communication
B. ADMINISTRATION
- POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
- Formulate and recommend Industrial relations policies
- Develop procedures to help align the workforce with the goals of the company
- Conduct continuing study of IR policies and practices to keep management informed of new developments
HUMAN RESOURCES INFORMATION SYSTEMS
- Manage employee IR records
- Maintain the HUB
REPORTS
- Run monthly IR reports
- Run monthly CCMA reports
C. MANAGING PROJECTS
- CONDUCT AUDITS
- Conduct regular audits in terms of IR compliance
- Report back to management in terms of audits monthly
- Action projects/plans to correct non-compliance
D. CLIENT LIASON
- CONDUCT REGULAR NATIONAL SITE MEETINGS
- Conduct regular client/site visits and address all relevant issues
- Report back to management in terms of risks
- Compile visits reports
- Daily communication with clients
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Relevant IR qualification coupled with previous experience in Industrial Relations function
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise at all levels
- Good understanding of current labour legislation with previous hands-on IR experience, including external dispute resolution processes
- Strong ability to coordinate and prioritize time requirements and workloads
- Initiative coupled with an ability to run with projects on their own
- High energy levels
- Relevant computer skills
- Own transport
