The General Laborer plays a crucial supporting role in a metal fabricating workshop, ensuring the smooth flow of production, maintaining a safe and clean working environment, and assisting skilled tradespeople (Welders, Fabricators, Machinists) with various tasks. This position requires physical stamina, a strong work ethic, and adherence to all safety protocols. Primary Responsibilities Material Handling and Preparation: Load, unload, and transport raw materials (steel, aluminum, pipes, etc.) and finished products within the workshop using appropriate equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, etc.), following all safety guidelines. Measure, mark, and cut basic materials to size using simple cutting tools (e.g., chop saw, band saw) under supervision. Deburr, grind, and clean metal components and fabricated parts to prepare them for welding, painting, or final assembly. Workshop Support and Organization: Assist skilled tradespeople by holding, positioning, or moving materials and parts during fabrication, welding, or assembly processes. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping, mopping, disposing of scrap metal and waste, and organizing tools and equipment. Clean and maintain shop machinery and tools as instructed (e.g., cleaning welding torches, wiping down workbenches). Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, etc.). Identify and report any potential hazards, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe working conditions to a supervisor immediately. Final Product Assistance: Prepare fabricated items for shipping or painting, which may include simple assembly, washing, masking, and applying protective coatings. Assist with packaging and loading finished products for delivery. Required Skills and Qualifications Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects (typically up to 25 kg), stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks. Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, and able to follow verbal and written instructions accurately. Safety Awareness: Basic understanding of industrial safety procedures and the importance of using PPE.
