CHIEF ENGINEER – FULL SERVICE HOTEL, CAPE TOWN A busy, dynamic full-service hotel in beautiful Cape Town is looking for an experienced and energetic Chief Engineer to join our exceptional team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on professional who combines strong technical expertise with personality, leadership, and a genuine passion for hospitality. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the maintenance and engineering operations of this full service property Ensure all hotel facilities, plant, equipment, and systems are maintained to excellent operational standards Manage preventative maintenance programmes and compliance requirements Lead and support the engineering team with strong technical guidance and motivation Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and service providers Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards Respond efficiently to maintenance issues and operational emergencies Assist in budgeting, energy management, and cost control initiatives THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: Proven experience in a senior engineering or maintenance role within hospitality or a similar fast-paced environment Strong technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems Excellent leadership and communication skills A proactive, solutions-driven mindset The ability to remain calm and effective under pressure Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities A hands-on approach with attention to detail The personality to build strong relationships with colleagues, guests, and service providers A valid drivers license with own transport Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays and be available after hours for any emergencies WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Beyond technical ability, we are searching for someone who brings warmth, professionalism, and personality to an already amazing team. Job Title: Chief Engineer Reporting Line: Manager: Provincial Manager Renumeration: R1 015 600 – R1 320 300 per annum Main Purpose of Job: To provide strategic , technical, and managerial leadership in the planning, design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of engineering and infrastructure programmes and projects, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, professional standards, and organisational objectives. Key Responsibility Areas: Project Planning and Design Carry out technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints that satisfy technical specifications of projects. Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects. Develop and design systems and structures, in line with built environment standards, using design software and drawing tools. Conduct on site investigations and analyse data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and other). Assess potential risks, materials and costs. Provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems / deficiencies. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labour to determine project feasibility. Manage the planning and implementation of Human Settlement Development projects undertaken by the Provincial Department of Human Settlements which uncludes the following: Plan and develop new housing and infrastructure projects to be implemented by the Provincial Department of Human Settlements. Oversee construction and on-going monitoring and evaluation of projects planned and implemented by the Provincial Department of Human Settlements. Project Development and Management Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design soecifications and safety or other construction development standards. Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to the technical team. Monitor progress and compile reports in project status. Resolve design and development problems. Assess the sustainability and environmental impact of projects. Ensure projects run smoothly and structures are completed within budget and on time. Hand / oversee the handing over process of the completed structures and services for use. Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety. Direct construction, operations and maintenance activities at project site. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equioment, or labor to determine project feasibility. Prepare or present public reports, such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact statements, and property and right-of-way descriptions. Management of complex infrastructure development and construction projects from inception to full life circle. Interpret test soil results of materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel. Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program mofications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel. Compliance Management Ensure that service providers comply with stated service level agreements and contractual obligations. Provide timely feedback to Provoncial Department of Human Settlements management regarding any contractual transgressions that may occur during projects implementation. Ensure implementation of projects are within established policies, systems, procedures, processes and practices. Provide advice and assistance to others to ensure their compliance with policy, governanace procedures, as well as industry standards. Identify areas of non-compliance and implement corrective action. Qualifications & Experience: Degree or BTech in Engineering Professional registration is a requirement Must be registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) / Professional Technologist (B-Tech).
