Johannesburg: Fibre / Utilities Coordinator (Locates & Wayleaves)

Job Description

The successful candidate will act as the central point of coordination between field technicians, contractors, and internal teams, ensuring that fibre infrastructure is protected during excavation and that all activities align with permitting, wayleave, and operational requirements. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required 2 years of experience in telecommunications, fibre, construction coordination, dispatching, or a similar operational environment Strong organisational and scheduling skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) Ability to read maps, construction drawings, or fibre network layouts Preferred Qualifications Experience in fibre optic or telecommunications infrastructure Exposure to wayleaves, permitting, or utility coordination processes Familiarity with GIS mapping systems or ticket management software Key Responsibilities Ticket and Request Management Monitor and manage all incoming utility clearance and locate requests Review, categorise, and prioritise requests based on urgency and due dates Ensure all requests are completed within required timelines Maintain accurate records of completed and pending requests Compliance and Damage Prevention Ensure compliance with excavation, permitting, and utility protection requirements Confirm that fibre infrastructure is identified and marked prior to excavation Maintain documentation for audits and reporting purposes Assist with investigations related to underground infrastructure damage Communication and Coordination Act as the primary point of contact between contractors, field teams, and internal stakeholders Provide regular updates on request status to operations, construction, and project teams Escalate urgent or high-risk activities that may impact network infrastructure Coordinate with maintenance and construction teams on ongoing field work Reporting and Documentation Maintain logs, completion reports, and performance tracking Generate reports on request volumes, turnaround times, and compliance Track recurring excavation activities and high-risk areas affecting fibre infrastructure Working Conditions Primarily office-based with regular communication with field personnel May require occasional after-hours support for emergency locate requests Ability to handle multiple tickets and deadlines simultaneously Working hours: 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM (Monday to Friday) From the 2nd Sunday of March until the 1st Sunday of November 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM (Monday to Friday) From the 1st Sunday in November until the 2nd Sunday of March US public holidays will apply. South African public holidays will not apply
