About the Role
As a Payroll Manager at Unique Personnel Ltd, you will be responsible for overseeing all payrolls for South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia. You will set deadlines and objectives for payroll input and practices, ensuring that payroll system changes and updates are implemented and monitored. This is a critical role that requires strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversight of all payrolls for South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia
- Setting deadlines and objectives for payroll input and practices
- Ensuring implementation and monitoring of payroll system changes and updates
- Responsible oversight of the time and attendance system
- Management of Time and Attendance Clerks
- Ensuring accurate T&A information, leave applications are correctly accounted for in the T&A System
- Correct application of overtime, approval, and payment accurately
- Benefits administration for provident fund and medical benefits
- Processing and paying 3rd party information by monthly deadlines
- Preparation and submission of reconciliations and variance reports
- Submission of statutory returns (PAYE, UIF, SDL, COIDA) accurately and on time
- Maintaining audit-ready documentation and supporting internal and external audits
- Ad hoc and statutory reporting such as WSP/ATR, Employment Equity, Return on Earnings
- Preparing and calculating annual salary increase schedules for submission and approval by Senior Management
- Innovating with new processes and leveraging technology to improve the department
- Managing and maintaining payroll systems (e.g. Sage, Pay Space)
- Implementing system upgrades and ensuring data integrity
- Training and supporting staff on system usage and troubleshooting
- Liaising with HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure smooth payroll operations
- Collaborating with the team to meet month-end deadlines
- Communicating payroll policies and updates clearly across the organisation
Requirements
- National Diploma/Degree in HR/Accounting/Payroll Administration
- At least 5 years experience in a payroll administration role
- 2 to 3 years background in a supervisory or management capacity
- Advance proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Proven experience in accounting software (Sage 300)
- Proficiency in Business English
