About the Role

Africonology is seeking a highly skilled Reconciliation Specialist to join our team in Johannesburg, Gauteng. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data by performing detailed reconciliations across multiple accounts and systems. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial and structural reconciliation: hierarchy checks.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and other financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies between internal records and external statements promptly and effectively.
• Maintain and update reconciliation schedules and documentation in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including finance, operations and audit, to obtain necessary information and resolve reconciliation issues.
• Identify process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of reconciliation activities.
• Prepare detailed reports on reconciliation status, issues identified and actions taken for management review.
• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, internal controls and company policies throughout the reconciliation process.
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities by providing accurate reconciliation data and analysis.
• Maintain confidentiality of financial information and adhere to data protection standards.

Requirements

• Recognised qualification in finance, accounting or a related field.
• Proven experience in financial reconciliation within the banking or finance sector.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
• Proficiency in using financial software and enterprise resource planning systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in work.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications

A minimum of a National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is essential.
