About the Role
The Head Guide is a critical role that requires exceptional leadership, guidance, and operational expertise to maintain the overall success of our Guides and Safari department. As the registered responsible person for company firearms, you will assume full responsibility for obtaining and maintaining valid departmental licenses, ensuring efficient and safe weapon handling and proficiency of the entire department. This position demands a strong focus on guest satisfaction, excellent relations with staff, and effective management of all equipment, vehicles, and assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee, train, and monitor all Field Guide functions according to FGASA standards and guiding culture.
- Ensure efficient allocation for all game drives, back-up drives, and stand-by duties.
- Chair and record departmental meetings, attend other meetings as required.
- Assist in managing lodge social media platforms, ensuring consistent delivery of relevant information with the aim of increasing knowledge of wildlife and operating area.
- Coordinate effective incident management in emergency or evacuation situations, including medical emergencies, fire, and flood.
- Mentor, train, develop, motivate, and guide team members towards achieving and maintaining required/higher qualifications.
- Compile feedback and progress reports to Field Guide College Head Trainer on Field Guide College Placement Guides.
Requirements
- Minimum FGASA Level 2 and Trails Guide (Essential)
- ARH and Rifle Proficiency
- First Aid Level 2
- Driver’s License and Pr-DP
- Previous experience as Assistant Head Guide or Head Guide
- Sound knowledge of planning, budgeting, and departmental administration
- Sound knowledge on applicable/relevant property and company procedures for the department
