About the Role
A SAIPA Clerk (Trainee Accountant) will undergo a structured training program within an auditing and accounting firm, providing practical exposure to accounting, taxation, auditing, and business advisory services while working under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture and process financial transactions on accounting software (Pastel, Sage, Xero, or similar).
- Reconcile bank accounts, debtors, creditors, and general ledger accounts.
- Assist with preparation of management accounts and working papers.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Assist with planning and performing audit procedures.
- Test financial controls and verify supporting documentation.
- Prepare audit working papers under supervision of seniors/managers.
- Support in drafting audit findings and recommendations.
- Prepare and submit individual, corporate, and VAT returns on SARS eFiling.
- Assist with tax calculations, provisional tax, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant tax legislation and deadlines.
- Assist in payroll processing and reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit statutory returns (PAYE, UIF, SDL, VAT, etc.).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation affecting payroll and tax.
- Liaise with clients to obtain necessary documentation and resolve queries.
- Prepare client files and ensure accuracy of supporting documents.
- Maintain professional communication and uphold client confidentiality.
- Assist with general office administration when required.
