About the Role
Compact Food Solutions in Muizenberg is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join their Maintenance Department for a temporary 3-month contract starting on 29 June 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhering to food safety rules and regulations
- Adhering to and implementing standard operating procedures
- Providing assistance to external contractors and/or service providers
- Performing cleaning and sanitation procedures according to standard operating procedures
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults rapidly on high-speed liquid/paste fillers, packaging machines and automated conveyor systems
- Overhauling, aligning and servicing various industrial pumps and high-torque product mixers
- Troubleshooting, servicing and maintaining critical thermal plant infrastructure, including steam networks, boilers and industrial chillers
- Ensuring all work complies with strict food hygiene standards (e.g., HACCP, FSSC 22000), utilising food-grade lubricants and clean work practices
- Conducting precise alignment, balancing and component replacements to minimise wear and tear
Requirements
- Valid Mechanical Fitter Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)
- At least 3–5 years of post-apprenticeship mechanical maintenance experience
- Proven experience maintaining boilers, steam systems and industrial refrigeration/chillers alongside production lines
- Maintenance and technical background
- Essential experience working within an FMCG, food manufacturing, beverage or pharmaceutical environment
- Health and safety training and experience will be advantageous
- Computer literate
- Strong proficiency in PLC troubleshooting, automation and reading complex circuit diagrams
