Job Description

Key Responsibilities As the Production Manager , you will be responsible for ensuring that all production processes are efficient, cost-effective, and meet both company and customer requirements. You will oversee the daily operations, ensuring production objectives, targets, and quality standards are met. Your key responsibilities will include: Coordinating and managing all production staff to ensure timely and high-quality production. Conducting regular meetings with machine setters to resolve issues, share information, and improve performance. Setting production targets (e.g., scrap %, absenteeism %, cycle time) and ensuring they are consistently met. Managing production schedules and resources to optimize the use of equipment and personnel. Ensuring all production work instructions (including flow charts, setting sheets, inspection instructions, etc.) are up to date and followed. Overseeing the ordering of raw materials and ensuring they are available when needed. Maintaining adherence to quality management and environmental systems, as well as ensuring workplace safety. Identifying and implementing continuous improvements in production processes, equipment, and tooling. Conducting periodic reviews to ensure production activities align with procedures and work instructions. Collaborating with the quality department to review and address non-conforming products and implement corrective actions. Providing leadership when the General Manager is unavailable, ensuring smooth operations. Analyzing performance data and preparing reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs). Ensuring compliance with relevant safety, quality, and environmental standards. Supervising and training production staff, identifying skills gaps, and ensuring the team is well-equipped to meet production goals. What We Are Looking For Qualifications : Minimum of a Grade 12 Certificate . Degree or Diploma in Manufacturing/Engineering or a related field would be advantageous. Experience : At least 5 years experience in injection moulding machine setting and optimization. At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a production or manufacturing environment. Proven experience in plastics manufacturing or similar industries is preferred. Technical Skills : Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint . Experience with databases and management data reporting. Strong knowledge of production processes , quality management systems (QMS) , and environmental management systems (EMS) . Experience in problem-solving techniques and identifying process improvements. Behavioral Skills : Strong leadership and people management skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Attention to detail and high organizational skills. Ability to manage high-pressure situations and make quick, informed decisions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Key Attributes Strong leadership capabilities with a focus on driving team performance and quality. Analytical mindset with the ability to assess production performance and implement improvements. Highly proactive, results-driven, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. A strong focus on health and safety, ensuring compliance with relevant standards. Ability to handle after-hours calls and production-related emergencies as needed. Additional Information Work Environment : High-pressure, fast-paced, with diverse products and potential after-hours call-outs. Some exposure to lead-based products, chemicals, and cleaning agents. Important Contacts : Collaboration with customers, department managers, machine setters, warehouse personnel, and operators. Driving License : A Code 08 Drivers License is required. Job Description

Job Responsibilities: General Duties: The duties of Production Manager are defined according to SA GMP Guide. Ensure the timely supply of quality product to our customers Ensure that production relevant documentation is GMP compliant, on-time and reviewed prior to approval Ensure that products are produced and stored according to the appropriate documentation in order to obtain the required quality Implement/support risk-based approaches for all manufacturing aspects, operations and equipment within the department Oversee the development, implementation of and the adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the department Ensure the areas of the department meet hygiene and cleanliness standards i.e. ensure that cleaning is appropriate and efficient according to production needs Ensure appropriate validation for equipment and processes are performed in the area of responsibility Ensure that adequate maintenance is carried out on all equipment, utilities and the manufacturing areas Support QA in all department-relevant quality investigations, for example product recalls, complaint investigation, deviations, OOS and change controls Ensure that there is a system in operation within the department to facilitate the inspection, investigation and taking of samples in order to monitor factors which may affect product quality Represent the department during inspections and audits Budget & Cost Control: Develop and control the financial budget for the department Control and optimize the cost within the department Set quality and performance KPIs for the department and monitor the departmental performance on a defined frequency Continuously improve processes to introduce World Class Manufacturing practices within the business Develop strategic roadmap for the department to meet market and business requirements for the present and future conditions Identify opportunities for productivity and efficiency improvements. Included in this will be the improvement of product yield. People Management: Manage all personnel in the department and provide ongoing performance feedback to staff as and when required Ensure that all personnel in the department is developed and trained as required by the various job functions Ensure best working practices within the department Set quality and performance KPIs for the department and monitor the departmental performance on a defined frequency Quality Management: Oversee the development, implementation of and the adherence to the Quality Management System for the department Ensure compliance to all QM controlled processes and documents Represent the department during inspections and audit Job Requirements: Scientific degree; preferably B. Pharm/BSc. Micro/ BSc Operations Management/ BSc Industrial Engineering Skills Matrix “Production Manager” role for local SOPs At least 10 years production experience as production manager on Senior Management Level Strong management experience Strong manufacturing process understanding Experience in continuous improvement techniques Can-do attitude Pharmaceutical Industry experience
