Pretoria: Automation Technician –Automation Lead

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Automation Technician to take ownership of PLC, HMI, SCADA, and robotic software installation projects, leading delivery from development through commissioning and final handover. As a highly skilled Automation Lead, you will be responsible for hands-on leadership, structured project coordination, and industrial automation excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management Plan and coordinate automation projects from initiation to commissioning
  • Define project scope, milestones, resources, and delivery timelines
  • Track progress against schedules, budgets, and risk registers
  • Conduct progress meetings and provide structured updates
  • Technical Delivery Lead PLC programming (Siemens/Beckhoff)
  • Drive HMI development and SCADA configuration
  • Robot programming, calibration, and integration
  • Conduct FAT, SAT, commissioning, and optimisation
  • Troubleshoot software, robotics, and instrumentation faults
  • Manage PLC and robot backups with correct storage standards
  • Collaborate with engineering on updates and reworks
  • Allocate tasks and monitor execution
  • Ensure quality, compliance, and safety standards
  • Mentor and develop junior technicians
  • Support recruitment and onboarding where required

Requirements

  • Proven PLC programming and robot programming experience
  • Automotive sector experience preferred
  • Strong exposure to:

• KUKA Robots

• Beckhoff PLCs

• Siemens PLCs

  • Degree / National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Industrial Automation or related field OR Applicable Trade Certificate (Electrical / Millwright / Mechatronic)
  • Computer Skills MS Windows, Outlook, Excel, MS Project AutoCAD advantageous
