Job Description
Are you a strategic, detail-obsessed Contract Manager who understands that in construction, the contract is the project?
Do you have the experience, backbone, and commercial mindset to manage multiple projects — balancing quality, cost, and risk with military precision?
We’re looking for a career-focused, high-performing Contract Manager who can lead teams, protect margins, and ensure projects are delivered in full compliance with contractual, financial, and performance standards.
This is a leadership role for someone who owns delivery, not just documents.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Management & Administration
- Oversee full contract lifecycle from award to close-out across multiple building and civil projects
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, programme milestones, and commercial targets
- Interpret and enforce conditions of contract (FIDIC, JBCC, NEC, GCC, etc.)
- Manage contractual correspondence, notifications, claims, extensions of time (EOTs), and variations
Commercial Oversight & Cost Control
- Work closely with Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers to control budgets and cash flow
- Approve valuations, progress payments, variations, and final accounts
- Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensure proper documentation is maintained to defend or support claims and disputes
Project Delivery Leadership
- Coordinate with Site Agents, Engineers, and Construction Managers to align site activities with contractual and commercial goals
- Drive performance on programme, ensuring the right resources are deployed at the right time
- Support planning, resource allocation, and milestone achievement
- Troubleshoot delays, disputes, and delivery risks proactively
Client, Consultant & Subcontractor Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Attend contract meetings and represent the company’s commercial and contractual interests with authority
- Manage subcontractor contracts and ensure back-to-back compliance with main contract terms
Job Experience & Skills Required (Ideal Candidate Profile):
- Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or similar
- 8+ years’ experience in the construction industry, with at least 3 years in a Contract Manager or Senior QS/PM role
- Deep understanding of standard form contracts (FIDIC, JBCC, NEC, GCC)
- Solid commercial acumen and ability to manage multi-million rand projects
- Proven experience with building and/or civil engineering projects (commercial, industrial, infrastructure, etc.)
- Proficient in contract management tools, MS Project, and cost tracking systems (e.g. CCS Candy)
- Valid driver’s license and own transport
- Willingness to travel to project sites and manage multiple teams/locations
- A decisive and disciplined leader who owns both risk and reward
- Commercially sharp with the ability to read a contract like a roadmap
- Not afraid to challenge scope creep, enforce timelines, and protect your margins
- A team player who builds trust across site, office, and client stakeholders
- Obsessive about documentation, compliance, and getting it done right the first time
- Hungry for growth, challenge, and long-term career success
