About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Draughtsman to join our team in Pretoria, responsible for producing detailed technical drawings and 3D models for sheet metal components and assemblies using SolidWorks. The ideal candidate will have advanced technical skills, industry knowledge, and excellent communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and revise 3D models and 2D drawings of sheet metal parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Apply sheet metal design principles including bend allowances, tolerances, and material properties.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
- Maintain drawing standards and ensure documentation is up to date.
- Conduct design reviews and provide technical input to improve product quality and manufacturability.
- Create and manage BOMs (Bill of Materials) and ensure alignment with ERP systems.
- Support prototyping and testing phases with accurate documentation and revisions.
- Mentor junior draughtsman and provide guidance on best practices.
Requirements
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced SolidWorks skills, especially in sheet metal module.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, bending, welding, etc.).
- Attention to Detail: High accuracy in dimensioning, tolerancing, and drawing standards.
- Communication: Ability to clearly communicate with cross-functional teams.
- Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying design issues and proposing effective solutions.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or related field.
- Matric certificate.
- Minimum 57 years of experience in sheet metal design and drafting.
