Role Overview
An established private wealth business is seeking an experienced and results-driven M&A Manager to drive growth through the identification, development and execution of strategic merger and acquisition opportunities within the Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) and broker market.
This role is focused on expanding Assets Under Management (AUM) through the successful sourcing and closing of M&A transactions. The M&A Manager will be responsible for building strong relationships within the intermediary market, identifying suitable merger partners, and managing the full acquisition lifecycle through to deal signature and structured handover.
The ideal candidate is a commercially astute business development professional with a proven track record in sales, acquisitions, or distribution within financial services. Success in this role requires strong negotiation capability, relationship-building expertise, and the ability to operate in a high-performance, target-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, engage and develop merger and acquisition opportunities within an allocated geographic region.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with IFAs and brokers to source potential merger partners.
- Conduct active prospecting, networking and PR activities to attract new acquisition opportunities.
- Lead negotiations and close M&A transactions aligned to strategic growth objectives.
- Ensure a structured and professional handover of signed merger partners to the relevant Regional Manager for implementation.
- Maintain awareness of competitor activity, regulatory developments and market trends that may influence acquisition strategy.
- Consistently achieve agreed acquisition and performance targets.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Recognised tertiary qualification in Finance, Commerce or related field (e.g., BCom, BBusSc, Wealth or Investment Management qualification).
Experience
- Minimum 5+ years experience in sales, acquisition, distribution or business development.
- Proven and verifiable track record of achieving targets in a high-performance environment.
- Experience within financial services, particularly private wealth, is highly advantageous.
- Exposure to the Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) and broker landscape.
Knowledge & Competencies
- Strong understanding of the financial services industry, including regulatory and compliance frameworks.
- Sound knowledge of market trends and competitive positioning within wealth management.
- Advanced relationship-building and negotiation skills.
- Strong commercial acumen and closing capability.
- Technologically proficient and comfortable using CRM and digital tools.
- Highly organised, self-driven and accountable.
