About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Nursery Manager to join our team in the KZN Midlands region. As a key member of our nursery operations, you will be responsible for overseeing daily tasks, managing employees, and ensuring the smooth operation of our avocado tree cultivation facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring the daily tasks are planned, organized, and carried out in accordance with the nursery’s monthly requirements.
- Organizing and monitoring the employees’ everyday tasks. Ensuring that certain tasks are carried out accurately, in accordance with training, and to standard.
- Conducting daily inspections and observations necessary for planning the nursery’s monthly needs.
- Tracking, updating, and analyzing records and data on plant progress within the growth cycle of avocado trees.
- Solving problems based on immediate and long-term requirements of the nursery and avocado plants.
- Resolving biological problems like temperature control and plant health as well as staffing challenges.
- Contacting and corresponding with clients about orders and questions.
- Finding new clients, contacting current clients, and completing the procurement and sale of plants to clients.
Requirements
- Technical skills and experience in a similar nursery environment.
- Strong organizational abilities, including planning both long-term and short-term tasks.
- Attention to detail and ability to identify patterns.
- Ability to solve problems and handle issues under pressure.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to speak IsiZulu being advantageous.
Qualifications
- Formal education in a relevant field (e.g. horticulture, agriculture).
- Relevant work experience in a nursery or similar environment.
