South Africa: Metallurgical Operator (Mining Diamond Processing Plant)

Job Description

Key Duties & Responsibilities Process Operation & Control: Operate, monitor, and control diamond processing plant equipment including crushers, conveyors, Dense Medium Separation (DMS), and recovery circuits to ensure stable throughput and optimal diamond recovery. Plant Monitoring & Reporting: Continuously monitor plant parameters, identify process deviations, and report abnormalities to the Metallurgist or Supervisor for corrective action. Sampling & Test Work: Collect representative samples from designated process streams in accordance with the metallurgical sampling and test work schedule. Quality Control Support: Perform routine metallurgical test work, inspections, and checks, recording results accurately and escalating off-spec conditions as required. Maintenance Support: Carry out minor operational and mechanical tasks such as inspections, screen changes, leak detection, and basic housekeeping to support plant availability. Safety, Health & Environment: Comply fully with SHE policies and procedures, actively identify hazards, participate in risk assessments, and promote a zero-harm culture. Security Compliance: Adhere strictly to diamond security protocols, ensuring compliance with all access control, reporting, and security clearance requirements. Qualifications & Experience Education: Degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline (mandatory). Experience: Minimum of 2 years operational experience within a mineral processing plant. Experience in diamond processing environments, including DMS and recovery circuits (XRT and/or grease tables), is highly advantageous. Technical Skills: Practical, operational understanding of diamond recovery processes Ability to monitor plant data, identify trends, and recognise deviations Accurate completion of shift reports, logbooks, and checklists Computer Skills: Working knowledge of MS Office and plant monitoring or laboratory systems. Physical Requirements: Medically fit for shift work in a demanding mining environment. Other Requirements: Valid drivers license; First Aid certification advantageous. Key Performance Areas Recovery Efficiency: Minimise diamond losses through disciplined process control and adherence to operating procedures. Plant Stability & Availability: Support consistent plant performance and minimise downtime through proactive monitoring and reporting. Safety & Compliance: Maintain zero harm, full SHE compliance, and strict adherence to diamond security standards.
