South Africa: Maintenance Planner (Mining Processing Plant)

Job Description

Key Duties & Responsibilities Maintenance Planning & Scheduling: Develop and manage daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules to minimize production downtime and ensure optimal plant availability. Work Package Development: Prepare detailed maintenance work orders and job packs, including labour, tools, materials, spares, permits, and safety requirements. CMMS Management: Maintain and update the CMMS (e.g. SAP PM, Pronto, Maximo, Pragma), including asset registers, job history, maintenance plans, and backlog control. Spare Parts Coordination: Liaise with stores and procurement to identify critical spares, ensure availability for planned work, and prevent maintenance delays. Shutdown & Major Maintenance Planning: Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns and major maintenance activities to achieve maximum work completion within allocated downtime. Contractor Coordination: Coordinate contractor scopes of work and schedules, and verify completed work against approved work orders and quality standards. Reliability & Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures to reduce repeat breakdowns and improve MTBF and equipment reliability. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all planned maintenance activities comply with health, safety, environmental, and site-specific standards. Reporting & KPI Tracking: Compile and report on maintenance KPIs, including plant availability, backlog, schedule compliance, and maintenance costs. Required Qualifications & Experience Education: Minimum Grade 12. N3 Engineering Studies or a recognized Mechanical or Electrical Trade Test is required. Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience as a Maintenance Planner within the mining industry, preferably in a diamond processing environment. Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of CMMS systems (SAP PM, Pronto, Maximo, or similar). Familiarity with diamond processing plant equipment, including DMS, crushers, conveyors, and recovery circuits. Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze maintenance data to optimize schedules, reduce downtime, and improve equipment reliability. Soft Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills, with the ability to work across maintenance, production, and supply chain teams. Other Requirements: Valid drivers licence.
