About the Role
Marvel Placement Consultant is seeking an experienced Underground Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a 12-month contract basis. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of underground mechanical systems, providing technical support to achieve production targets, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all underground mechanical installations, equipment, and maintenance activities comply with MHSA and site standards.
- Provide mechanical engineering support to achieve safe and sustainable production targets.
- Manage and optimise planned maintenance systems to improve equipment availability and reliability.
- Investigate mechanical failures, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct regular underground inspections to identify risks, defects, and non-compliance.
- Review and approve mechanical designs, standards, and technical documentation.
- Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and life-of-asset strategies.
- Manage contractor performance and ensure work is executed safely and to specification.
- Compile engineering reports, risk assessments, and performance data for management review.
- Work closely with production, engineering, and safety teams to drive continuous improvement.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational discipline.
Requirements
- BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years’ underground mining experience.
- Proven experience with underground mobile and fixed mechanical equipment.
- Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and relevant regulations.
- Experience in maintenance management, equipment reliability, and breakdown analysis.
- Strong understanding of risk management and safe work practices.
- Computer literacy (MS Office and maintenance management systems).
- Medically fit for underground work.
