About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health and Safety Manager to join our team at PAR EXCELLANCE in Germiston. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing our SHE/EMS systems, ensuring legal compliance, risk reduction, and a safety-first culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage SHE/EMS systems, guidelines, objectives, and practices for the large food factory.
- Ensure legal compliance with OHS Act, Regulations, COIDA, Nat Environ Mngt Act, NEMA, ISO 45001, and other relevant legislation.
- Conduct risk assessments, HIRA, ERA, task-based, JSA/JHA, and maintain a risk register to drive control measures.
- Plan, conduct, and manage OH&S/EMS internal and external audits, inspections, lead incident, accident, near miss investigations, and RCA tools.
- Ensure prompt implementation of CA/PA and oversee emergency preparedness, fire evacuation, refrigerant leaks, medical emergencies, first responder arrangements.
- Use data insights to identify focus areas and drive interventions.
- Promote a safety-first mindset, coach, on-the-floor control, mentor, manage performance of junior management, coordinate OH&S/EMS committees, safety reps, stakeholders, Department of Labour, Unions where applicable, and collaborate with Production, Engineering, HR, Quality, Food Safety to integrate EMS/OH&S into daily operations/projects.
- Plan, conduct, and manage DoL internal/external audits and inspections.
Requirements
- ND/B Tech/B Sc Safety Mngt/Environ Health (NQF 67)
- OH&S qual/SAMTRAC/NEBOSH/Environ Mngt
- At least 57 years of food OH&S experience in large labour-intensive, shift-based food/FMCG factory
- At least 3 years in a senior management OH&S role
- Strong experience with OHS Act, Regulations, COIDA, Nat Environ Mngt Act, NEMA, ISO 45001, risk assessment, incident investigation, audits, NC, training, technical OH&S knowledge, machinery safety, chemical, biological risks, reports.
Qualifications
- Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.) are required
