About the Role

Join a small, high-impact Actuarial team within a broader Finance function, where you will work on advanced reserving, IFRS 17 reporting, capital analytics, and automation initiatives that directly improve operational efficiency. You will have significant ownership, the opportunity to shape key actuarial processes, and the support of colleagues who care deeply about both performance and people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build automated models and improve end-to-end actuarial processes
  • Contribute to reserving, IFRS 17, and capital analytics while engaging with senior stakeholders
  • Identify data anomalies and perform detailed “data digging”
  • Fix data errors and implement controls
  • Analyse trends and portfolio movements
  • Maintain clear documentation for models, methodologies, and processes
  • Perform ad-hoc analytical work as required

Requirements

  • Education: minimum requirement BSc or BComm in Actuarial Science (or equivalent)
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years actuarial/analytical experience, preferably in short-term insurance
  • Skills:
  • Programming skills (VBA, R, Python, SQL)
  • Experience with Power BI

Qualifications

  • Nearly or newly qualified actuary (ASSA or equivalent)

About the Role

We are seeking an Actuarial Analyst to join our team in Johannesburg, where you will be responsible for supporting the valuation and reporting processes, as well as contributing to the development of actuarial models and data management systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in calculating technical provisions and preparing internal valuation reports
  • Contribute to documentation of actuarial assumptions and methodologies
  • Contribute to experience investigations, assumption setting, and reserve movement analysis
  • Support regulatory submissions and statutory returns (QRT, ORSA)
  • Help maintain and enhance the actuarial data warehouse
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across actuarial datasets
  • Work with large datasets to identify trends and anomalies
  • Create and monitor data validation metrics to ensure data integrity
  • Build and maintain the extract, transform and load (ETL) process from business core systems
  • Work with actuarial models to produce forecasts, stress tests, and scenario analyses
  • Assist in maintaining and updating actuarial models used for reserving and forecasting
  • Provide analytical support for product reviews, business planning, and management reporting and risk-based assessments
  • Assist in analysing the financial impact of business decisions, product changes, or external events

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or similar (SAQA-accredited)
  • Demonstratable progress toward actuarial qualification (exemptions or subjects passed) with Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA) or other recognised international body
  • Minimum 2 years actuarial work experience in a life insurance environment (e.g., financial reporting, valuations)
  • Exposure to SAM, IFRS 17, or other regulatory frameworks preferred
