About the Role

The Semi-Skilled Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the maintenance department by assisting with routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repair work. This position forms the foundation of the maintenance department, providing operational support while developing practical experience in industrial maintenance environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with breakdown repairs to minimise production downtime.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks on electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Assist with repair or replacement of minor electrical components (switches, fuses, outlets).
• Conduct basic mechanical adjustments including alignment, fastening, and part replacement.
• Ensure machinery and installations remain compliant with safety and operational standards.
• Conduct routine visual and functional inspections of workshop machinery and systems.
• Identify wear, damage, or safety risks and report findings to senior technicians or supervisors.
• Participate in scheduled equipment inspections (quarterly and as required).
• Record maintenance findings and inspection outcomes accurately.
• Maintain workshop asset control logs and equipment sign-out records.
• Assist with spare part stock control and basic inventory tracking.
• Support the maintenance team in ensuring spare parts availability for repairs.
• Assist in maintaining organised and safe work areas.
• Collaborate with Production, Parts, Engineering, and Safety teams when required.
• Provide assistance during breakdown situations or urgent repair requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
• Minimum 2 years semi-skilled electrical or mechanical maintenance experience
• Valid drivers license with reliable transport
• Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)
